1963 Maserati Sebring 3500 is being offered for sale with an excellent pedigree. 235 bhp, 3,485 cc DOHC inline six-cylinder engine with indirect fuel injection, five-speed manual transmission, double-wishbone front suspension with coil springs and telescopic dampers, rear longitudinal leaf-spring suspension with anti-roll bar, hydraulic telescopic dampers, anti-roll bar, and four-wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase: 100.39 in. •Impressively restored, desirable Series I example •Owned by noted Buick engineer Joe Turlay for over two decades •Finished in its original color combination, Amaranto Roma over Black; matching-numbers engine •One of just 348 first-series examples produced •Accompanied by a fascinating history file Boasting an intriguing early ownership history, this desirable Series I Sebring was built in 1963 and delivered new to Bologna, Italy, finished in Amaranto Roma over a Black leather interior, according to records from Maserati Classiche. The 3500 GTI would only remain with its original owner for two years before it was purchased by its second owner from Sasamotors of Modena, who imported the car from Italy to Detroit, Michigan. That second owner was none other than Buick engineer Joe Turlay. Turlay was one of the company’s most talented engineers, having worked in a number of different departments during his 30-year tenure at the company. He was known for improving the camshafts and cylinder heads on the Buick’s second-generation straight eight, and following the war, he helped design the XP-300 engine and Buick’s aluminum engines, leading to the company’s first V-8 in 1953 and V-6s in the 1960s. By the time he retired, it was said that he set the record for the number of patents granted to him while he was employed by Buick. A talented engineer, it should be no surprise that Turlay performed his own maintenance and even modified his Maserati to his own tastes, changing the dashboard layout, light switches, and heater controls. It is also believed that he improved the car’s fuel-injection system and camshafts as well in an effort to increase performance and reliability. Turley kept the car for 20 years until his passing, when it was inherited by his grandson, Jeffrey Bottrell of Ferndale, Michigan. Unfortunately, Bottrell found little use for the Maserati and only kept it for a further three years before selling the Sebring to Richard Bliznick. He continued to keep the car in storage in Michigan until later moving to California and taking the car with him. Purchased in 1996 by Richard Litchfield, also of California, the car received minor cosmetic recommissioning under his ownership. In 1999, it was purchased by Harry Garschagen, at which point the car’s fuel-injection system had been replaced with triple Weber carburetors. He commissioned McCabe Automotive Restoration of Mundelein, Illinois, to fully restore the Maserati to its original configuration. It was refinished in its original color combination of Amaranto with a new interior featuring black Connolly leather and Wilton wool carpets. Turlay’s interior modifications were still present, though the decision was made to return the dashboard to its original and correct layout. The car was purchased by its current owner two years ago, and it has remained in his collection in the Northeast ever since. In his custody, the restoration has been well preserved, and the car has been maintained as necessary. It still presents nicely and is sure to only receive the most favorable of comments wherever it goes. Additionally, the car comes with an extensive history file that includes documents from Joe Turlay’s ownership, the Bill of Sale from Sasamotors, the car’s shipping invoice from Italy to the US, and numerous letters from Turlay to various people in pursuit of maintaining his prized Maserati. The car is also accompanied by a tool roll as well as the Weber carburetors wi

Beautifully restored Touring ALFA 1900SSC Coupe. Restored to touring specs and has performed in the Mille Miglia in the 1992. A great GT road worthy restored 1900SSC. With the ability to gain entry into desirable events becoming a great factor in the interest in various motorcars, it is little wonder that the awesome Alfa Romeo 1900 has become such a hot commodity given its ability to run so many great tours, rallies and events. With that in mind, this car was extensively refurbished in the early 1990s for participation in the Mille Miglia retrospective. Starting with Touring's stunning 3-window coupe, the car was rebuilt with intense touring in mind. The car was torn down and rebuilt as a historic rally car with an integrated roll cage, sporty Zagato-style seats, a 5-speed Alfa Romeo manual transmission, electrics kill switches, period correct fog lamps, tow hooks, and an upgraded motor featuring an Alfa 2000 (Tipo 102) block. The Alfa was also cosmetically and mechanically refurbished to ensure successful competition of events both in terms of driving and looking good while doing it! Upon completion of the work the car was entered in and completed the 1992 running of the Mille Miglia Retrospective (clearly the rules back then were a bit looser). Following the Mille, the Alfa headed stateside and became a regular participant in numerous events. Carefully maintained and well kept, invoices on record speak to the work performed by the specialists at Continental Auto Sports in Hinsdale, Illinois. It should be additionally noted that, while they are not presently fitted, the original factory bumpers are included with the car. The vendor reports that the car is happy cruising at 80mph with road holding and braking capabilities to match! Today the Alfa continues to show well and will no doubt serve as an excellent mount in which to participate in future events such as the California Mille, Copperstate 1000, Colorado Grand and Tour Auto.
The Alfa Romeo TZ1 has fascinated many of us for decades, primarily for it's beautiful lines but also for it's very successful racing record. Having admired this car for so long the builder Ermanis decided to make an affordable replica so others can enjoy this great car. The chassis, which is based on original factory drawings, albeit with some changes, is made of approximately 160 pieces of round tube 1020 steel. Each tube has fish "mouthed-cut” out to fit over another tube fitted & finished by hand with a die grinder and welded into place on a dedicated jig. Suspension in the front is by Alfa torsion bars, permitting the use of Alfa brake rotors and torsion bars using the Alfetta/Milano spindles and upper and lower control arms as well as original shock absorbers, bushings, etc. At the rear, a Spider/GTV differential is mounted with standard trailing arms, a lightweight anti-torsion rod and a sliding block similar to a GTA-for lateral location. The sliding block greatly lowers the roll center of the car giving improved handling. The engine can be any 1388 or 2000 Alfa. We have used the 2000 engine which fits very nicely. The Alfa transmission with a slightly bent shift lever is used with a shortened Alfa driveshaft. After a 2 year search for the best components for this car we chose an Alfa Spider motor, transmission, and rear axle. The front suspension has been relocated with coil over shocks for simplification and ride quality. The carburetor "air box" is an original work of art. All of the instruments are in working order and taken from the Spider. The seats are Zagato style, fully and professionally trimmed inside the cockpit. The Body has been trimmed out beautifully with polished aluminum window retainers just like the original cars. Door latches and bonnet latches are like a TZ1 as well as the TZ1 logo on the rear license panel (hand-made). All lights are original TZ1. The wheels are correct for the car with new Pirelli tires. Paint on the car is show quality and the same color has my original TZ1 racecar number 30, which ran at Coronado and Laguna Seca. The car is completely finished with no work to do. It’s been driven on rallies such as the California Mille or Copperstate. There is over $250,000 invested into the car in labor and parts, and is being sold for $165,000. Feel free to contact any of the listed points of contact for any further questions regarding the car. POCs: John Weinberger (630) 660-4144 JohnFWeinberger@aol.com Greg Cantu (630) 655-3535 This is a replica of a 1965 Alfa Romeo TZ1(Turbolare Zagato Series 1). The donor car was a 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider. The major components of this car all came from this Spider. The body for the car was made from a mold taken from an original TZ1 so it is amazingly accurate. The windows, latches and aluminum trim were all fabricated as close approximations to the original. The tubular frame is constructed in a similar fashion to the original but designed to work with the live axle from the 78 Spider. The chassis also features rack and pinion steering. The brakes are 4 wheel disks from the 78 Spider. The engine is the original specification from the Spider and it has been correctly converted to twin 40 DCOE Webers with the correct European intake manifold. The headers and exhaust were custom made to fit the car. The interior features Zagato replica seats and rubber mating. The Gauges from the Spider are quite similar to the original TZ1 items so they look very authentic. The car was completed last spring so all the cosmetics and mechanical components are excellent condition. The car drives very well in all respects, everything works and all controls are tight and smooth. A beautiful, unusual, exotic that is virtually all Alfa!
